Labor Day Weekend Fun in Rock County 2026

Labor Day weekend always feels a little different around Rock County. Summer isn’t technically over yet, but you can feel fall starting to sneak in, and around Janesville, Beloit, Milton and the surrounding communities, people seem pretty determined to squeeze every last bit out of the season.

In 2026, Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7, giving us a long weekend from Friday, September 4 through Monday. If you’re looking for something to do, this is actually a pretty packed weekend around Rock County, with downtown art, baseball, fireworks, farmers markets, water skiing, a brand-new corn maze season and plenty of reasons to get outside.

Start the Weekend in Beloit With a Labor Day Bash and Fireworks

You don’t have to wait until Saturday to get the weekend started. The Beloit Club is holding its Labor Day Bash on Friday, September 4, from 4 to 10 p.m. at 2327 S. Riverside Drive.

The event is open to guests and has no entry fee, although food, drinks and activities are purchased separately. Family activities are scheduled from 4 to 9 p.m., including a petting zoo, putting contest, yard games and face painting. Live music runs from 6 to 9 p.m., and fireworks are scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

That makes Friday pretty easy to plan if you’ve got kids or just want an outdoor evening without driving halfway across Wisconsin. Grab some food, listen to music, hang out by the river and finish the night with fireworks.

And if baseball is more your speed, Beloit has you covered there too.

Catch the Sky Carp at ABC Supply Stadium

The Beloit Sky Carp are home for Labor Day weekend against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, with games scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday at ABC Supply Stadium.

Friday night’s September 4 game starts at 6:05 p.m., and the first 500 fans through the gates are scheduled to receive a Minty Mae bobblehead. Saturday’s game begins at 6:35 p.m. and has a particularly local twist this year with USS Beloit Night.

Members of the USS Beloit crew are visiting the city over Labor Day weekend, and the Saturday night game is part of the community celebration surrounding their visit. There are also opportunities to meet members of the crew around Beloit during the weekend, including a Saturday morning meet-and-greet at the Beloit Farmers Market.

There’s something about minor league baseball that fits a holiday weekend perfectly. You don’t need to make a huge production out of it, and ABC Supply Stadium puts you right in downtown Beloit, where you can easily make dinner or drinks part of the night.

Saturday Morning? You Have Two Great Farmers Market Options

If your ideal Saturday starts with coffee, something baked and wandering around outside, you’re in luck because both Janesville and Beloit have farmers markets happening September 5.

The Janesville Farmers Market runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Town Square. The market features local produce, meats, cheeses, eggs, baked goods, plants, handmade items and other local products.

Downtown Janesville is also holding its Sidewalk Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. that Saturday, so you can turn the farmers market into a longer downtown morning instead of making it a quick stop.

Down in Beloit, the Beloit Farmers Market is another longtime Saturday tradition and one of those events that gives you a pretty good feel for the community. The 2026 Rock County guide describes it as Wisconsin’s second-largest farmers market, with more than 130 vendors in downtown Beloit.

If you’re new to the area, these markets are worth visiting for reasons beyond buying vegetables. You see local businesses, run into neighbors, find restaurants you didn’t know about and get a much better sense of downtown than you ever could by simply driving through.

Art Infusion Takes Over Downtown Janesville

One of the biggest events of the weekend is Art Infusion, running September 4 through September 6 in downtown Janesville.

This isn’t an art show where you walk quietly through a building and try to look like you understand everything. Art Infusion brings the art right onto the streets with sidewalk chalk artists, murals, exhibits, workshops, guided tours, performances, shopping and dining throughout downtown. It’s free for spectators.

The 2026 theme is “America 250: Janesville’s Rich Tapestry,” tying the event into the country’s 250th anniversary. Artists are being encouraged to draw inspiration from Janesville’s Indigenous heritage, the Rock River, agriculture, manufacturing, local wildlife and landmarks such as the Lincoln-Tallman House, Monterey Rock, downtown architecture, parks and bridges.

That local focus is what makes this year especially interesting. Instead of art that could be happening anywhere, the subject is Janesville itself.

The chalk art competition is judged Sunday afternoon, with awards scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Firehouse Park. Art Infusion is also expanding in 2026 with Tattoo Competition Week, running August 31 through September 6 at participating downtown tattoo studios.

If you haven’t spent much time downtown lately, this would be a good excuse to change that. Start at the farmers market Saturday morning, check out the sidewalk sale, grab lunch, then walk around and watch the artwork take shape.

Fall Starts Early at Skelly’s Farm Market

Some people refuse to acknowledge fall until the calendar says so. Other people see one cool morning and immediately want apples, corn mazes and a sweatshirt.

If you’re in the second group, September 5 is your day.

Skelly’s Farm Market outside Janesville officially opens its 2026 fall season on Saturday, September 5. The farm’s two corn mazes return this year, including its six-acre traditional maze and more difficult nine-acre Impossible Maze.

The theme for the 2026 Adventure Maze is “Deserted Island Escape,” and Skelly’s has added an escape-room-style element to the maze. You’ll search for clues as you work through the corn, with the goal of cracking the puzzle and making your escape.

Maze admission for 2026 is listed at $12 per person, with children three and under free. Skelly’s is at 2713 S. Hayner Road in Janesville, and the fall season runs into November this year.

For families, this is one of those easy Rock County outings that can take up a couple of hours or most of an afternoon depending on how seriously your group takes getting lost in corn.

Fair warning: the Impossible Maze has earned its name. Choose your teammates wisely.

Take a Step Back in Time at Beckman Mill

If you want something quieter, Beckman Mill County Park south of Beloit is another good Labor Day weekend option.

Guided tours are scheduled Saturday, September 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the restored 1868 grist mill. Because it’s the first Saturday of the month, the schedule also calls for corn-grinding and blacksmith demonstrations. Admission for the guided tours is listed at $3 per person, with children six and under and Friends of Beckman Mill members admitted free.

The mill is only part of the reason to go. The surrounding county park, mill pond, dam and rural setting make this a nice choice if you want to get outside without going to a large festival.

It’s also one of those Rock County places people can live near for years and somehow never visit. Labor Day weekend seems like a pretty good time to fix that.

End Sunday With One Last Rock Aqua Jays Show

If you want to give summer a proper sendoff, head to Traxler Park in Janesville on Sunday evening.

The Rock Aqua Jays are scheduled for their final regular water ski show of the 2026 season on Sunday, September 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Bank First Stadium in Traxler Park. Admission and parking are free, and the show includes the pyramids, jumping, ballet and barefoot skiing that have made the team a Janesville summer tradition.

The Rock Aqua Jays are 24-time national champions, so this isn’t exactly your neighbor pulling a kid around the lake on a tube. You’re watching one of the most decorated show ski teams in the country perform right here on the Rock River.

Bring a chair or grab a spot in the bleachers, get there a little early and enjoy one last summer evening along the river. Since shows can be affected by water and weather conditions, checking the team’s schedule before heading out is a smart move.

Or Skip the Schedule and Have a Labor Day Picnic

Not everybody wants a holiday weekend packed with places to be and times to remember. Sometimes the best Labor Day plan is a cooler, a grill, a couple of lawn chairs and nowhere you need to be afterward.

Rock County gives you plenty of places to do exactly that.

Riverside Park in Janesville is a classic choice, with plenty of green space along the Rock River and room to spread out. Palmer Park is another good family option, especially if you have younger kids who need somewhere to burn off energy while the adults catch up.

If you want to make more of a day of it, Rock County’s parks give you some beautiful options outside the city as well. Beckman Mill County Park can easily become more than a mill visit, while Gibbs Lake County Park and Magnolia Bluff County Park offer a completely different side of the area.

Or keep it even simpler and make Labor Day a backyard day.

Fire up the grill, invite a few people over, put out the yard games and enjoy one of those Wisconsin afternoons where nobody is in much of a hurry. Brats are practically required. Whether you go with burgers, corn on the cob, potato salad or whatever your family always makes, there’s something pretty great about finishing summer without needing an itinerary.
